Taking Stock

What brought you to TJMC and what keeps you here? You’ve heard those questions before. They’re a common ice breaker, but they can lead to deep conversation and intimate connection, too. Maybe you ask yourself these questions as well. Why am I here and what am I getting out of it?

We have come to TJMC in so many ways, brought together by moves and personal upheavals and searches for meaning and often an aching loneliness. And we say…

For the first time, I felt at home.

I finally had a peer group.

I cried through every service, I was so moved.

Like any love, our relationship changes over time. Heady infatuation becomes deep commitment and a comfortable partnership. But relationships require continuing investment, and little annoyances can become large over time. Untended, even the most promising gardens become choked with weeds.

The Pulse survey last spring was a look at what our relationships have become. Some of us expressed dissatisfaction, and our Board and ministers listened. We’ve seen important changes as a result.

If you’ve dropped away from the church, we invite you back. Experience your church with a beginner’s heart again. If you have been here all along, find new inspiration in the work we are doing. Share our joy in what we have already accomplished.

Take stock with us. We are actively promoting religious freedom and racial justice. We are encouraging spiritual growth at all levels. We have completed major renovation projects in both of our church buildings. We continue to worship together and care for each other. We are your church.

We have chosen the theme “We are TJMC” for our annual pledge drive. Look for our messages of inspiration at church, on our website, and in social media. In reading about what TJMC means to members of your church family, remember what it means to you.

Then pledge your support, your financial contribution, to our church in the coming year. We are all givers and receivers in one loving faith community. Reflect upon the value of this church community to your life, to our community, and to the world. And then give as generously as you can, knowing you and your gift are deeply appreciated.
