The UU Charlottesville Meal Packet Ministry gives emergency food assistance to the caregivers of patients receiving care the UVA Medical Center.
It helps the children in our congregation act on our First UU Principle, “The inherent worth and dignity of every person”, and Second, “Justice, equity and compassion in human relations.”
Donations buy nutritious shelf-stable food. Our children assemble meal packets: one-gallon plastic bags holding enough food to feed one person for one day and a greeting card. They love doing it and are very committed to their work.
The social work office tells us greatest demand for meal packets is for family members of pediatric and neonatal intensive care patients and may feed recipients for up to three months.
