I paint as a way to engage my spirit with the world.  I paint every day for several hours, often when I can’t sleep.  The act of painting draws me into what I paint. Often, I find I have painted shoes into a work or other images that I did not consciously plan.  Sometimes when I go back to finish a piece, I find I have to let it be unsatisfactory to me, because it is a description of that time that I painted it.
