The magic of creating photos has captivated my soul for many years. I began this journey by focusing on making black and white pictures and developing them in my home dark-room. I continue to be intrigued by the mood and feelings this approach evokes. I’m currently working in color as well as black and white, and like to be versatile with what the situation calls up.
In the past few years I’ve begun focusing on photos of a more conceptual nature. I’ve been using composite techniques to convey feelings and ideas.
I’m primarily based out of Charlottesville, Va. I like to work with client’s to find a setting that is conducive to what we hope to achieve.
Shirley Paul
Even as a young child I loved creating things and pictures, making up plays for my younger siblings to act out, building sand castles, and making music. As an adult, I’ve been fortunate enough to learn, with the help of many fine teachers, how to paint and play with art in various styles and media. When I lived in the Washington DC area, I studied actively, exhibited and won prizes in national shows.
After moving to Charlottesville in 1989, I took a break from art for awhile, and then found the creative urge returning in a strong way. My kitchen is now my art studio! I paint most days, and find it something I am driven to do. While I find it extremely satisfying, it is also always challenging and stimulating. It was great honor to be juried into the BozArt Fine Art Cooperative.

Juliette has lived in the USA for over 40 years now and is originally from Bath in England. She emigrated to the USA and attended the University of Colorado where she got a degree in Fine Arts. Juliette has been living in Virginia for 20 years.
The excitement I feel when I am painting is that I am becoming better at observing the world. This is not the ‘Big Picture’ but it is zeroing in on the ‘little picture’. It is learning to “see” with an artist’s eye. This applies to painting a hare or painting flowers. One can learn what they are like by close examination. Years ago I painted on silk and this led me to try water colors – another medium where the paints can be given free flow to blend and overlap in interesting ways.
I attended the University of Colorado where I got a degree in Fine Art. More recently I have studied under Alex Powers, Jeanne McGuire, Carol Carter, Ann Abgott, Barbara Nechis, Don Wilson and several other teachers. Currently I am a member of the Beverley Street, Studio School, the Co-Art Gallery, Bozart Fine Arts in Charlottesville, and the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro.
