Food Ministry
As Unitarian Universalists, we see access to food as a basic human right. At UUCville, we have a long history of working to help alleviate hunger and food insecurity in our local community and in our congregation. Although our food ministry is wide-ranging, we offer two core programs.
The Food Pantry
On the first Friday of every month in the Summit House parking lot, UUCville offers a food pantry featuring USDA food purchased from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. The Food Pantry is staffed by church volunteers and provides both perishable and non-perishable food. The Food Pantry typically welcomes 40-50 guests every month. For more information click here.
The Soup Kitchen
Every Sunday at 11AM, volunteers from UUCville prepare and serve lunch to 45-60 people per week through the participation of six rotating host teams at The Haven in downtown Charlottesville. Either a hot meal or bagged lunch is provided.
