Our Social Action Collections Have Been A Big Success!

2020 was a year like no other. The COVID-19 pandemic has left many of our neighbors without jobs and struggling to provide food and shelter for their families. Over the past six months, Unitarian Universalists of Charlottesville have contributed generously to six local non-profits whose social justice purposes are in line with our own.

Already we have helped fund school supplies for families in need and tutoring adult learners in basic education and English as a second language, partnered with nearly two dozen other congregations to find solutions to community problems, provided funding for the Community Food Pantry that UUCharlottesville runs at our congregation, purchased non-perishable food for UVa Hospital meal packets assembled by our youth, and supported legal and material needs for our immigrant Hispanic neighbors.

Here are the organizations we supported over the last six months and the funding we have provided each:

  • July – Back to School Bash — $2,180
  • August – Literacy Volunteers — $1,220
  • September – IMPACT — $2,726
  • October – UUC Food Pantry — $2,600
  • November – Hospital Meal Packets — $2,141
  • December – Sin Barreras — $3,699
  • Total — $14,566

We are a generous people and we make a difference in our community. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to these worthy causes.
