BOARD OF TRUSTEES

PRESIDENT (2-year Term)
Pam McIntire

I am a long-term member of UUCville. Greg and I raised our two sons here and we have been teachers and advisors in RE classes for all these years. For many years I focused primarily on youth programming by teaching OWL, Challenge and YRUU. I have been on the board as an at-large member and then as the president for the last two years. I was the chair of the Task Force to Explore Ordaining Leia and I was a member of the search committee for our Interim Minister and then our Developmental Minister.

UUCville is extremely important to me. It lifts my heart to be with a group that is dedicated to love and kindness and who brings UU values to building community and working to heal the larger world.

I love being on the board and I would welcome the chance to continue working with such wise, kind and respectful people on behalf of our congregation.

TREASURER (2-year Term)
Kay Frazier

Kay has been a member of the congregation since 2016. She currently serves as Treasurer and is on the newly formed Stewardship Steering Committee. Kay enjoys helping with the many tasks that support fundraising and events that bring us together. Kay is retired from years of service in local government, serving on a city’s Leadership Team and leading a large department.

She is honored to be considered for the position of Treasurer for a second term as it gives her the opportunity to use her work experience in the service of our congregation. She strongly believes that stewardship is a foundational pillar in upholding the mission and values of the congregation.

BOARD AT LARGE (3-year Term)
Achsah Carrier

I began attending UUCville 20 years ago. I lived right around the corner on University Circle when I was in high school, but had no idea what Unitarian Universalism was until I walked in the door thirty years later. My son came to RE with a friend for a while when he was in middle school. That seemed fine to me, but I didn’t have any interest in church. Until one day, after he had been coming for most of a year, I received a nice, long letter from Rev. Leia explaining I really couldn’t keep sending my son to class without at least stopping by to introduce myself. So I attended a service to check it out and discovered, to my surprise, that I had been a UU all my life without knowing it.

I signed the book in 2005 and Jean Newland, then the chair of Membership, invited me to join the committee that day. I served on Membership until just a few years ago, and while doing that I also worked with Communications. I joined that group when a new website was being planned, and have been doing that ever since. I have also worked with other groups in a communications role. This year, for example, I have served on the Pledge Team and Mission Team, communications being especially important for both of those. I love working with the website and other outlets and thinking about how to extend our message further. I know that outreach and communications are important for our congregation, and I hope that I can help make this more effective by serving on the Board.

BOARD AT LARGE (3-year Term)
John Griffith

I am interested in serving on the UUCville Board of Trustees to support UUCville’s mission and operation to our members and community. I was on the board of a non-profit a few years ago and can draw on that experience. I am impressed with UUCville as an organization for spiritual connection and social good and would love to serve UUCville in building on these strengths. Our family was drawn to Charlottesville in 2019 by the community and environment; we discovered UUCville right before the pandemic. Before this, we attended Follen UU Church in Lexington Massachusetts. I was looking for a spiritual home for my daughter and myself and was attracted by the many amazing UUs I have known. My daughter attended RE and performed in the choir and annual operetta. I served as an usher, chair of the Communications Committee during some major technology roll-outs, and as an OWL teacher. As a family, we attended church retreats. At UUCville, my daughter has been attending RE and I have had the privilege of accompanying her Neighboring Faiths class on visits to experience other local religious institutions. I have been a co-leader of the UUCville Parents Group. I took a spirituality course with Reverend Leia and my wife and I are taking the Parenting Class now.

Personnel Committee (3-year term) – Two Open Positions

Bob Brett

I have been serving on the Personnel Committee for about a year and a half when Steve left early to serve on the Board. So I have finished that term and wish to serve a second term to help keep some continuity within the committee and to continue to learn about this aspect of the church. It’s been a great group to work with and it has a bit of a learning curve, so it feels like a second term will be spent using what I have learned.

Other experiences within our congregation: Multiple RE volunteer stints; served as a chaperone on an ASP project; served on the Leadership Development Committee (now known as the Nominating Committee); served as Co-Chair of the Pledge Drive 2023; currently part of the Pastoral Visitors group; and obviously on the Personnel Committee.

Cathy Lawder

Cathy is currently serving on the Nominating Committee.  She looks forward to having the opportunity to learn more about church leadership and governance by serving on the Personnel Committee.  Cathy has been a member of UUCC since 2008.  She co-chairs the Refugee Welcome Committee and continues to support our sponsored Afghan family.  Cathy has facilitated and participated in several covenant groups, helped with meals at the Haven, auctions/yard sales, and other church activities.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE (2-year term) — Two Open Positions

Amy Nash

I am happy to serve a term on the nominating committee.  I have served on this committee before, as well as volunteered in RE classes, choir, co-facilitated covenant groups, co-facilitated the parent’s circle this year, helped with special events (like holiday parties, DreamQuests, etc), served as a pledge-asker several times, and pitched in with community service such as soup kitchen, PACEM, caroling for elders;  as well as marched with UUs in Charlottesville and DC to ‘stand on the side of love’ for women, black lives, etc.

For those who don’t know me, my husband Matt and I have been members of UUCC since 1996, and raised/continue to raise our three kids here (now 14, 20, and 22).  The church has enhanced and informed our parenting, and enriched our children’s lives, in innumerable ways — and I would like to give back to the church that has nurtured them and us so profoundly.

Professionally, I’m a licensed clinical social worker who works as a psychotherapist.  Hopefully, my skills of active listening and building on strengths will help me attune to individuals’ interests, preferences, and strengths as we explore possible leadership positions together.

I’ve noticed a new energy, higher morale, and heightened sense of community and caring among church members lately, and I’d love to contribute in some way to keeping the positive momentum going!

Laura Wallace

Laura Wallace was born in Charlottesville. She’s been a UUCville member for 40 years and an active UU in other states. She is a poet, an agnostic and this congregation is her “phamily.” A portrait of 1945 member Rachel Poole hangs in her living room, and a David Breeden mobile in her front window. Many of her friendships grew within this beloved community and she wants all members to feel at home in an extended UU family. She has served on various committees and as a Worship Weaver, taught RE, led multiple covenant groups since their UUCville launch in 2002 and is now a member of two. If elected to the Nominating Committee, she looks forward to inviting more congregants to explore fulfilling new roles in our community life.
