The story of the spire
The unique spire that sits atop the congregation building at 717 Rugby Road was designed for the church at its founding in 1950.
The twisting aluminum ribbons represent eight major religious traditions, and are woven to symbolize that the closer each approaches the truth, the closer they come together.
The intersecting lines at the top of the spire reference the early Christian roots of Unitarian Universalism, and here within this circle, they also represent the unity of the human and the spirit.
Radiating out from the circle are two distinctly different metals symbolizing UU virtues to be shared with the world: rays of light in brass, and rays of warmth in copper.
The aluminum used on the spire is highly reflective and it continues to act as a source of illumination throughout the community.
