The Green County Sheriff’s Department plans to host a day-long seminar “Understanding the Jihad Threat.”  Originally titled, “Understanding the Muslim Threat,” the seminar will feature Chris Gaubatz, the son of David Gaubatz, who wrote Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America; as well as Charlottesville-area resident Suzanne Shattuck, a self-titled immigration and national security activist and writer.  The seminar is scheduled to take place this Saturday, Nov. 5, 8am-5pm at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Stanardsville.

 As our religious kin at the Islamic Society of Central Virginia have said, “A session of this sort can have devastating effects not only on Greene County but also on neighboring counties like ours.”  We are asking that the event be canceled or, at least, postponed until it can involve representatives of the local Muslim community and other interfaith leaders to ensure a fair and unbiased look at the subject of radical Islam.

Should the seminar go forward, there will be a witness of support for the Muslim community at the Piedmont Virginia Community College (Stanardsville) Eugene Giuseppe Center from noon-1pm.
