We’ve started collecting the donations we need to prepare a home for our refugee family. CLICK HERE for the list — imagine what you’d need to cook, sleep or relax after such a grueling and difficult transit! Our gifts plus our love and time can make a real difference.
Smaller items go to the Summit House porch (labeled REFUGEES). For furniture, email RefugeeWelcome@uucharlottesville.org with details — we now have a donated storage unit. We’re also making an appeal for the purchase of mattresses, which must be new. Could you “sponsor a mattress?” Let us know — we’ll do the shopping! (Due to shipping backups, buying local is the plan.)
It’s also time to choose how you and your family can join in the Refugee Welcome experience! CLICK HERE to answer the Volunteer Questionnaire about ways you are willing to share your interests and skills. This info will be a huge help as we organize for the family’s possibly-sudden arrival. We don’t know when the call will come, so PLEASE DON’T DELAY!
There will be a special video during our November 7th service to kick off fundraising for our $5,000 goal. This will subsidize the family’s rent for a few months while they find their feet and find employment. We also have specific purchases to make that must be new. Every contribution helps, so please give what you can. Whether it’s a little or a lot, we’re all in this together and are grateful for the chance to give.
THANK YOU for making UUCville’s Refugee Welcome warm, real and from the heart!
With love,
Refugee Welcome Task Force
