As part of our ongoing effort to work in partnership with African American faith communities and to support Black-owned businesses, UUCville is participating in an Ebenezer Baptist Church initiative to promote and support local black farmers.
We made a donation to a farmers’ market Ebenezer recently sponsored and we have now been invited to join the Ebenezer community in purchasing meat and produce from Cattle Run Farm (read more about the farm here), which is an African-American owned farm in Ruckersville that utilizes sustainable farming practices.
The weekly purchasing program begins this week and below is a list of Cattle Run Farm products you can order. The program will be run through Ebenezer and, as you can see, this time of year most of the products are meat as well as a delicious blackberry jam.
Orders are placed by emailing ebc113@comcast.net and must be received by Wednesday afternoon. Orders are then picked up at Ebenezer’s Lee Center, which is the white house next to the church, on the following Saturday between 9 and Noon. For example, if you place an order by this Wed (9/27), you would pick your order up on 9/30 between 9 and Noon at the Lee Center. Payment is made by cash or check (made out to Ebenezer Baptist Church) at the time of pick up, or you can use CashApp.
Below is the list of items available from Cattle Run this week and some additional ordering instructions. We expect this progam to be weekly so if you are not able to make a purchase this week, there will be additional opportunities. You will receive a list of products that are available next week, the week after, etc. Products may change from time-to-time so keep checking to see what’s available.
Of course, the decision to purchase products is completely up to you and we know meat products may not fit everyone’s dietary needs or preferences. But supporting such an important effort by our friends at Ebenezer as well as sharing our consumer dollars with a black-owned farm is a tangible way UUCville can be a good ally and partner in the struggle for racial justice.
