Central Virginia Community Justice provides brave spaces for restorative justice practices in our community. In our three years of existence, we have primarily done this through criminal diversions away from prosecution.

The person who was harmed (the victim) and the person responsible (the defendant) voluntarily engage in a facilitated conversation about accountability and healing, coming up with a written agreement about what actions will be done for repair and future safety. Once the responsible person fulfills the actions, the case is resolved in court, typically with a dismissal, sometimes with a reduction of conviction.
We also provide restorative conferencing for non-criminal harms, restorative support in schools, and group trainings on conflict resilience. We are grateful to UUCville for the use of their spaces for some of our meetings, and for being the spiritual home to a couple of our facilitators.
Thank you!
