Love at the Center: Voices from the Pledge Team

The work that we do at UUCville is important. It’s important for me, it’s important for the congregation, it’s important for our local communities, and it’s important for the world at large. It’s important for now and it’s even more important for the future. It’s important because now, perhaps more than any time in my lifetime, the world needs places like ours that put love in action. And that work can be done only with the support of this congregation. That means support in terms of time, energy, passion, skills, and finances. I pledge so that we, as a caring community that wants to put love into action, can plan on how to spend our collective time, energy, passion and skills to be the change that we want to see in the world. And I am on the Pledge Drive Team because I want to be a part of the process that brings that to fruition.

I support UUCville because I want to be a part of something that matters in this world and I want to make a difference. I believe the work UUCville does is critically important. Not only are we a sanctuary where love and kindness are at the center of our actions and relationships, but we are helping our community and we are taking a stand in the world that every person is worthy of respect and dignity. To be able to do our work, we must have resources, we must be able to think strategically and we must run smoothly and efficiently.

Our Pledge Drive is fundamental to all these efforts. It allows us to plan our year and to fund our actions. The success of our Pledge Drive determines what we can do in the coming year. I am part of the Pledge Drive Team and I pledge because I want to do my part to bring UUCville forward in the world and to put Love in Action.

I’m volunteering for the pledge team this year because pledging is one of the most important things we can do to fuel the many activities we offer, foster greater participation in spreading the UU message and keep our community strong.

I’ve raised two great children (now adults) who grew up on UU principles and I’m so grateful to have found this spiritual home. It’s time for me to give back more.

It doesn’t take very long to realize how vital the pledge drive is to our church. It’s the main source of financing our budget, and I feel being on the team is a form of stewardship that goes beyond the dollars while being involved in the dollars. Plus it’s a great group of people to spend time with.

Making a financial commitment assures our church stays, at least, as stable as it’s ever been. And the hope of an even bigger budget to work with will allow for more growth internally and into the community. Our best days are truly ahead of us, and I want to help us get there.

I joined UUCville as a pledging member to be part of a community that values compassion, social justice, and spiritual growth. Pledging isn’t a taboo word—it’s a way to ensure our congregation’s stability while supporting programs, education, and outreach that benefit both our spiritual home and the wider community. Over the past five years of helping with the pledge drive, I’ve experienced the joy of shared purpose and formed friendships I might never have had—proof that connection, generosity, and commitment to our values grow together when we give thoughtfully.

I believe deeply in UUCville’s mission of Love in Action. I know that furthering this mission requires the necessary resources for UUCville. While some of our financial support comes from other sources (yard sale, space rentals, auctions, etc.), it is we, the congregation, that constitutes, by far, UUCville’s main source of revenue, through our Pledges, and the fulfillment of the Pledges. I serve on the Pledge Drive Team so I can do my part to help UUCville turn Love into Action. From a personal viewpoint, it gives me great joy to pledge what I can to support our church.

I am a member of the pledge team because it is so gratifying to work with a dedicated group of people towards a goal that we all share. Every year I am re-inspired by this project.

Each year, I capture the stories of what people love about UUCville and what inspires their pledge. Hearing their reflections reminds me how much care, hope, and connection lives here. I get to witness those moments of honesty and gratitude, and then weave them together in video so we can all see the bigger picture of who we are as a community. For me, being on the pledge drive team isn’t just about fundraising — it’s about storytelling, connection, and helping reflect the love and generosity that already exist in this congregation. That’s why I keep coming back each year.

I pledge because this community has given me so much — connection, hope, and a sense of belonging. It’s a place where I can learn, grow spiritually, and be part of something larger than myself.
