The Blue Ridge Abortion Fund receives requests from community members who need financial support to pay for their abortions. People call our intake staff, who work with them to develop a plan of support that best suits their needs. Our Congregation’s financial support will ensure people in the Charlottesville/Albemarle and surrounding communities are able to access abortion care, which is essential health care, without regard to the size of their bank account. There are two abortion clinics in the Charlottesville/Albemarle community. The cost of an abortion is between $400-$1,450. This is a catastrophic medical expense for our callers, especially when the time-sensitive nature of abortion is considered.
BRAF receives donations made June 13-July 9
In 2021, in part because of our congregation’s financial support, the BRAF was able to increase the average amount of assistance provided to the 1,856 people served to $324. That was a 57% increase in the number of callers supported over 2020. The need will certainly be greater in the coming months as access to abortion is shrinking.
