“All who welcome all” begins here …
“A welcoming person who smiles, says hello, takes an interest in you, and willingly offers helpful information, can provide that essential positive first impression. That is the job of the Greeters.”
– Jenny Garden, Greeters Chair
During the month of November we are highlighting the opportunity to serve as a Greeter. On Sunday mornings we all appreciate that smiling face that greets us at the door. Read on to learn how you can contribute to our welcoming community:
What is my commitment as a Greeter?
As a Greeter, you will be asked to commit to serve for one year on one of the five greeter teams. As such, you will be scheduled to serve once every five weeks. Greeters arrive at the church 30 minutes prior to service, and stay for social time after the service.
What are the responsibilities of a Greeter?
You are the smiling, welcoming face at the church doors. Greeters are posted at each door and in the foyer. You will be trained on the specifics, but most importantly, you welcome all at the door, answer questions, hand out announcements and assist first time visitors.
What happens after the service?
Our welcome extends into the social hall after Sunday service. This is when friendly contact is most needed. You will invite visitors into the social hall and serve as their host, answer questions, make introductions, and direct them to the newcomers table. This invaluable assistance helps our visitors find their place in our dynamic church community.
As a Greeter at TJMC-UU, you will make new friends, learn to recognize many faces in the church, and you will experience the joy of providing valuable human connection to those seeking reassurance. Your presence in this position is needed and much appreciated.
