Covid 19: How We Respond and Help Each Other

The church building including the church office continues to be closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Church staff are working from home and are available via email and telephone.

Staying Connected with CareNet

In mid-March a group of TJMC folks came together under circumstances that none could have envisioned a mere several weeks prior. The catalyst was Covid-19. The group was formed to provide a network with the objective to stay lovingly and regularly connected, and to run errands, provide meals, rides to appointments, and whatever other pressing need that might arise for those in our congregation who are in a vulnerable age group, or who are living alone or in assisted living and nursing homes.

In mid-March, none could have known that today, over three months later, this group would still be together performing the same objectives of staying connected to fellow TJMC folks via a Phone Tree of 40-plus members who call and are called regularly, and by 25-plus Errand Volunteers who perform a myriad of services, such as getting groceries, taking folks to appointments, and providing computer help.

COMPUTERS and TABLETS NEEDED

We now know how being connected is vital during this time of separation. This is even more critical to our elders who rely on our community. To help our elders stay connected please consider donating your unused and functioning Andriod tablets, iPads, or laptops. They will need working speakers and preferably front-facing cameras as well. We will preload Zoom into the devices and have our volunteers deliver them and hook them up to the elder’s internet. Or if you are able and technologically proficient, please let us know if you would be willing to help walk them through downloading, installing, and using Zoom.

Contact Sean DAF@UUCharlottesville.org if you have a donation of an item or your time. Your help is crucial and valuable. Thank you.
