The church’s fiscal year begins in July, but the energy of new beginnings is felt most fully in the fall. So welcome to a new year!
People often wonder where they can go with a question, comment, concern, or bit of praise. Where can you go, who can you talk with if you are troubled by (or love!) some change in our worship service, let’s say, or an interaction you had with a staff member? How can you voice your opinion about an action of the Board, or share a really great idea for something you think we could be doing?
The first, best, thing is to go directly to the person or group involved. Have a comment for RevWik? Send him an email and set up a time to talk. Want to tell the Board what a stellar job they’re doing? Tell our President, Karen Ransom. Have an idea for a new social justice initiative? Contact the co-chairs of our Social Justice Council, Stephanie Jones and Jen Larimer, or attend their next meeting.
Reaching out to the Committee on Ministry, though, is another avenue you can take. Our charge is to “interpret, support, and monitor the ministry of the Church.” This wide focus means we don’t just focus on feedback about our Lead Minister. It means that we’re a good place to go with questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, and celebration about any aspect of our church life. You can email the Committee at com@uucharlottesville.org. If you want to talk with a person face-to-face, our Committee on the Ministry for the 2015-2016 church year consists of Doug Webbink, Ruth Douglas, Katharine Maus, Lisa Shutt, Beth Jaeger-Landis, and Cathey Polly. The Committee meets on the third Monday of each month to take what we’ve heard and consider how best (and who best) to respond. RevWik is an ex officio member.
