Chris Little has recently resigned from the Board of Trustees (see further note from him below), and we’d like to thank him for his service. Chris was always thoughtful, insightful and passionate, and we appreciate what he brought to the Board.
When a vacancy arises during the middle of a Board term, our Bylaws provide that it will be filled by the Board, in consultation with the Nominating Committee. A vacancy appointment will be in place until the next congregational meeting, at which time there will be a special election to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term.
In consultation with the Nominating Committee, the Board has appointed Ashley Cooley to fill the vacancy on the Board, effective immediately.
Ashley is a relatively new member of UUCville, and joined last fall after moving here from Tennessee. She lives in Charlottesville with her husband Benjamin and son Sam, and originally came to Charlottesville many years ago for law school. She practices disability law part-time and works at PACEM. She enjoys hiking and camping in the mountains, cooking vegan food, choral singing and all types of family-friendly activities. She says “I value our UU community and look forward to working more closely with the congregation”.
Chris wanted us to share this note regarding his resignation:
My call to be proximate with the marginalized has introduced me to many new friends and communities in Charlottesville, Richmond, throughout the US, Ireland, and even Africa, and the invitations keep coming. At times overwhelmed, emotionally and logistically, I’ve decided to prioritize proximity with my family, proximity on the margins, proximity with my family on the margins, and writing about our experiences to help change the narrative and invite others along. Consequently, I concluded some existing responsibilities, among them my service on UUCville’s board. As much as I valued and enjoyed this board role, I feel confident I can contribute to UUCville from the margins, and also confident this board will continue to thrive and lead us forward in our mission.
