President’s Report to the Board October 2026

Diane Ober and John Alexander inspiring Action with Mosaic

I imagine many of you are feeling the same apprehension that I am about our country and the upcoming elections. I worry about the atmosphere of threat, intimidation, and danger that is being generated by the federal administration. I worry about the safety and wellbeing of our members, our neighbors, and the people around the world impacted by US actions. For me, being able to channel these worries into action, no matter how small, is what is helping me deal with the current situation. I really appreciate the steady leadership of our Mosaic team in helping us all know how to take action. I know their big push right now is on getting all eligible voters out to vote, and vote early if possible. If you haven’t voted yet and are able to do so, please vote as soon as you can. Mosaic is supporting this by helping to organize transportation to the early voting sites, and by helping us learn more about the issues on the ballot this year. Stop by the Blue Mosaic table in the Social Hall every Sunday to add your name to the tree of people who have voted, or to get more information about voting.

Even with these worries, we all continue assembling and caring for each other. I was so pleased to help organize the annual brunch for our elders, which took place on October 24. It was a wonderful event, with nearly 60 older members and friends showing up to enjoy a lovely meal and catch up with each other. Our ministers also joined us and circulated through the group to chat and check in. The ministers did a lovely job acknowledging the past and ongoing contributions of time and energy and skill from this group of people. It is heartening to be reminded of their dedication to UUCville over many, many combined years.

Please join us for what looks to be a wonderful action event on Saturday, November 7 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. You can support the auction with donations of events, services, specialty products, etc (donation deadline 10/26). The event itself also includes a soup and bread cookoff, so sign up to enter your best soup and bread in the contest. We all have the delicious responsibility to try as many options as possible and vote on our favorites! And this year we’ll be providing childcare in the Lower Hall so parents can enjoy the auction (see the Friday email newsletter for more details and to sign up your kids).
