For more than 35 years, Blue Ridge Abortion Fund (BRAF) has been providing essential financial support to individuals seeking abortions, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to accessing care. What began in 1989 with a humble jar at a county fair has blossomed into a powerful, community-driven network.

To date, we’ve supported more than 12,000 abortion seekers in their journeys. In the face of ongoing challenges, BRAF continues to provide unwavering support. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are able to offer $25,000 each week in abortion funding to Virginians and those traveling to the Commonwealth from states where abortion access has been restricted. We also offer vital assistance for travel, food, lodging, and childcare to help mitigate barriers so people can get the care they need.
At BRAF, we are guided by the belief that everyone deserves the autonomy to make decisions about their own body and future. Together, we are building a world where abortion care is accessible, compassionate, and stigma-free. As the oldest and largest abortion fund in Virginia, BRAF is committed to evolving and expanding to meet the needs of our community.
